Flexible Configurable VXI Platform

The idea

The proclamation of one VXI device in an existing test environment should not challenge the entire system.
Reproduction or acquisition of refinished units might be expensive and is often not possible for long term support.

The concept of FlexCVP (Flexible Configurable VXI Platform) is adopted from the existing FlexCPP (Flexible Configurable PXI Platform) out of the PXI product family. Therefore it is possible to use available FlexCPP function modules in VXI applications.

The concept

FlexCVP baseboard for the usual VXI C-size mainframe is able to carry up to 4 independent function modules. The communication between baseboard and modules occurs with an universal serial protocol.

To use the advantage of the floating technology, it is possible to place two DC/DC modules and two function modules on the baseboard. In that case, there are two logically separated and galvanic isolated modules available.

In case of a grounded application up to 4 modules were directly supplied by the VXI backplane. With the internal trigger bus different trigger options are possible, i.e. separated or common trigger.

The advantages of FlexCVP

  • To realize a time- and cost-optimized custom design, it is only neccessary to develop the function module
  • An essential advantage is the possibility to combine different function modules in one VXI unit, i.e. two digitizer and two arbitrary generators
  • The realisation of product families is more cost effective, i.e. digitizer (16 Bit/100 MS, 12 Bit/250 MS, 10 Bit/1 GS)
  • With one baseboard, the digitizer modules, the arbitrary generator modules and the DC/DC modules
  • it is possible to create more than 10 different devices
  • Modern function modules, which are available by the FlexCPP family, can be used
  • Replacement of VXI devices is very easy
  • Long term support for VXI devices is feasable
  • The integration of custom design matrix functions is possible
